Telecommunications companies in Nigeria have realised that
existing wireless technologies such as 3G and WiMAX will not be a definite
solution to Nigeria’s internet access problem. They are looking at Long Term
Evolution (LTE) to open up new revenue streams for them by enabling solutions
well beyond mundane voice and data services. Aviat Networks, a broadband
infrastructure and equipment provider says it is putting in place the
mechanisms for telecoms operators to achieve smooth transition to LTE. LTE is a
new radio platform technology that allows operators to achieve even higher peak
throughputs than HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access plus) in superior spectrum
bandwidth.
For the company, the key to this move is its recognition of the
Nigeria as one of its most crucial markets in the world, hence, the deployment
of its latest solutions to assist mobile operators in the country. The same
commitment to the Nigerian market recently brought the President and chief
executive officer of Aviat Networks, Mike Pangia, to the country, where he
personally felt the pulse of the market meeting the company’s customers in the
country.
In a chat with Information Communication Technology (ICT)
correspondents in Lagos, Pangia described the Nigerian market as a top priority
in the business agenda of the company as it is ready to assist the country grow
technologically with its solutions. “This is one of the most critical markets
we have, so, it is important for me to stay connected with the people here,
spend time with employees as well as the customers and also see the customers
need and how we can do more to assist the country in the area of technology
with our solutions,” he said.
Surrounded by the company’s country manager in Nigeria, Olawale
Osimosu, Brian Jakins, senior director Sales & Services in Africa and Ben
Udeze Sales Director in Nigeria, Pangia spoke about the Aviat solutions for
operators in the country, noting that the company is here to transform their
business. According to him, all over the world, Aviat is empowering operators
to achieve smooth transition to LTE technology and that is why the company has
come up with the slogan: ‘we are LTE proven’. He added that the company remains
on top of the game because all its products are LTE enabled, which makes it
easier for operators who uses its solutions to transit easily whenever they are
ready to. “All our products are LTE-enabled.
“We are LTE proven because we have provided the service in many
countries of the world and that is why we are the leader in LTE provision. We
make operators LTE ready,” he said. And here in Nigeria, he said the company is
already preparing the operators for this great transition. Mobile operators in
Nigeria like others around the world are moving from voice to more data and
that requires higher capacity. It also requires solution that is capable of
doing TDM as well as IP networking and our solutions allow the operators to
handle both very well and allow smooth transition. As we introduce new
products, that provides better capability for our customers, we also allow them
increase their revenue,” Pangia said.
The Aviat boss added that in assisting its customers, the company
does not only deliver services and products but meet with the customers to
actually know what they really need. “We partner with the people, we advise
them on the right equipment to use.” Reinforcing the promises of the President
and CEO, Nigeria Country Manager for Aviat, Osimosu noted that “the major
advantage we have with the operators is that we have the knowledge base and we
have well trained and experienced people, who are ready to assist our clients
in all areas of their needs,” he said. He added that everybody is now IP
centric since all the major operators have moved and this necessitates the need
to deploy new solutions to meet their needs.
